Poway Mayor Don Higginson announced yesterday that he will run for reelection against Councilwoman Merrilee Boyack after all, reported the Union-Tribune. Community members urged Higginson to run again following a tumultuous year in Poway's politics, with Councilwoman Betty Rexford's recall election continuing to sour voters.

The saga continues for Poway Councilwoman Betty Rexford as another neighbor claims harassment, reported the Union-Tribune. George and Helen Wu, whose property adjoins Rexford and her husband's, represent the third accusation by neighbors who say that Rexford interfered with their building plans.

Over 400 teachers and staff attended a Poway Unified School District meeting to protest a proposed three-year contract that would reduce pay for all district employees by 7.5 percent, according to the Union-Tribune. The district estimates that it will have to cut $24 million this coming school year due to decreased state and federal funding.

Yesterday the San Diego County registrar of voters verified that petitions turned in last week were sufficient to qualify a recall vote of Poway city councilmember Betty Rexford, reported the Union-Tribune. The recall vote will be held June 8 in conjunction with the statewide gubernatorial primary.

Poway school district considers salary cuts PDF Print E-mail

The Poway Unified School District superintendent is proposing to cut teacher and other employee salaries by 7.5 percent and reduce the number of school days by five, according to the Union-Tribune. Superintendent Don Phillips said the cuts are needed because the district is facing a $24 million budget deficit for the next school year.
