A draft ordinance that would set standards for San Marcos properties' appearance and maintenance won tentative support from the City Council, though some members want to see changes, according to the North County Times. If approved, the ordinance would establish minimum standards for landscaping, fences, maintenance of buildings and other add-ons. Individual council members indicated they would like further discussion on the ordinance's title and whether it would dictate how long people can leave up holiday decorations or temporary lightning. |

San Marcos city officials are exploring the idea of raising water levels at South Lake for inclusion of its development into a major recreation area, reported the North County Times. The Vallecitos Water District, which owns the lake, agreed in 2005 to lease the lake to the city for up to 75 years, at a cost of $1 per year. The proposal calls for turning the lake in a 53-acre park with boating, hiking, fishing and additional outdoor activities. |
